Help Children Become Confident Speakers

Speaking in public is something your child will have to deal with for the rest of their lives. Language and communication are two of the most critical parts of early childhood development.

Adults are important in the development of communication because we can model its use in various settings and illustrate how communication works. That is why here at Ellwood Daycare and Out of School Care we highly encourage parents to actively participate in their child’s development.

Consider how you utilize your face when interacting with a child. Encourage participation by keeping your eyes wide open. Nonverbal cues, gestures, and facial expressions are all important in creating rapport. Avoid using ‘baby talk’ and simplifying your communication with your youngsters. Although it is preferable to avoid using overly complex words, speak primarily in entire sentences and Standard English.

Make extensive use of open-ended questions. They are useful for developing conversation since they allow children to develop a conversation with you. Create challenging and exciting situations to engage your children and provide plenty of opportunities for meaningful conversation. When a child makes a mistake with a word or its pronunciation, instead of pointing out the mistake, simply repeat back the word as it was stated correctly.

Enroll your child in our daycare in Edmonton, Canada, and allow them to become confident and effective speakers. The goal of our child care and education services in Canada is to promote healthy growth and diversity in a friendly environment where children can build lifetime learning skills.
